Screen Blocking
In screen blocking, Tunsil is more than capable to deliver blows downfield protecting his runner. He has the awareness to use a basketball position mentality to get in front of defensive backs that are notably more athletic than him, but drive blocks linebackers in space if he gets his hands on them.
I would like to see him play with a more consistent mean streak, but he seems to have a very even-keeled personality on film.
Pro Comparison and Draft Projection
Pro Comparison: Tyron Smith. Both were excellent pass blockers in college gaining depth and setting quickly immediately after the snap. Tyron Smith has better length than Tunsil, but Tunsil has better ball awareness and natural feel for the position coming out of school. Both were seen as blue chip prospects that needed to add some weight (310 lb each) from college.
Projected Round: Top 7. Laremy Tunsil was all but guaranteed to go in the Top 3 a few days ago, but then the St. Louis – Tennessee Titans blockbuster trade happened. With quarterbacks going #1 and #2 overall, Tunsil’s earliest spot could be #3 to the Chargers. The Cowboys already have an elite left tackle in Tyron Smith, so they realistically won’t take him. The Jaguars’ left tackle Luke Joeckel was drafted in 2013, but is struggling so they could move on and take Tunsil. While the Ravens have Eugene Monroe, but he is always injured. Slight chance he falls to San Francisco at #7, but I highly doubt it. Too much talent.
