Why the Patriots’ defense is so bad

The Patriots defense is off to a historically poor start. In their first four weeks, they were dead last in touchdowns per drive, yards per drive, and second to last in points per drive. According to 538, they have allowed the most expected points added by any defense over the last decade. In Week 5, they played a bit better against the Bucs, but they are far from the team we saw last year.

For this video, I wanted to see what exactly was going on so I went through the film and looked for common trends from these games. The first, and honestly one of the biggest issues I saw on tape, was their poor run defense on first downs. The second reason is due to secondary miscommunications. The third, and other main reason, is simply players are not performing up to their abilities.
