Is Rees Odhiambo the answer for the Seahawks at left tackle?

The Seattle Seahawks lost their left tackle, George Fant, to a torn ACL during their second preseason game versus the Minnesota Vikings. After he struggled during his rookie season, he came back this offseason in much better football shape and also looked to have improved his technique. With his loss, the Seahawks need to figure out who they are going to move to left tackle. In this video, I looked at a few plays where Rees Odhiambo was playing left tackle. Also, I looked at potential alignments for the Seahawks’ offensive line going into the season.

In this game, he lined up against Tashawn Bower for most of the night. By my count, I thought he was responsible (or at least partially responsible) for two sacks and one pressure. It wasn’t all bad, but I don’t think he should be the Seahawks’ left tackle going into this season. His skill-set is much better suited as a guard.

So who should be the left tackle this season?

In my opinion, Tom Cable should move Luke Joeckel back outside. While he wasn’t the best there with the Jacksonville Jaguars, he is still the best option Seattle has at the current moment. If he did this, it would open the competition for the left guard position where Odhiambo, Mark Glowinksi, or Oday Aboushi could compete for that spot.

In summary, here is my final projected line-up based on this week’s game:

  • Luke Joeckel at LT
  • Rees Odhiambo at LG
  • Justin Britt at C
  • Mark Glowinski at RG
  • Germain Ifedi at RT

What do you think? Should Joeckel swing out to the open left tackle position or should he stay at left guard?
