Seattle Seahawks Team Needs

With the NFL Draft approaching, I wanted to take a brief look at the biggest needs for the Seattle Seahawks. I also looked at some potential targets the team can acquire after the bulk of the free agents have signed. In my opinion, the three biggest needs are offensive tackle, cornerback, and pass rushing defensive tackle.

As far as the offensive line is concerned, the Seahawks signed Luke Joeckel to a one-year contract. The former second overall pick from the Jacksonville Jaguars, never developed as an edge blocker and in his fourth season with the Jaguars was moved interior to the left guard position. While he was a better guard than offensive tackle, it’s difficult to say where the team will use him moving forward. Will he replace Mark Glowinski at the left guard position? Or will the team move George Fant to the right tackle position and allow Joeckel to take over the left tackle position? In my opinion, it will completely depend on their selections in the NFL Draft. If they take an offensive tackle in the first two rounds, there is a good chance Joeckel will stay on the interior replacing Glowinksi. If not, I think he takes over the left tackle position.

As far as the other positions of need, cornerback is definitely up there with DeShawn Shead tearing his ACL in the playoffs versus the Atlanta Falcons. While the team has Jeremy Lane, he did not play that well this season and should stay as the nickel cornerback anyways. Someone in the first or second round like Kevin King from Washington or Ahkello Witherspoon from Colorado would be a good choice. In an ideal world, Ohio State’s Gareon Conley will fall to their pick, but it’s unlikely at this point. He has the zone coverage ability to perfectly fit the Seahawks’ defensive needs opposite of Richard Sherman.

What do you think? Are these the three biggest needs for Seattle?
