Here is my scouting report on Jeffery Simmons, DL out of Mississippi State:
General Comments:
- Great strength and drive to collapse the pocket
- Alignment: 3T, 1T, 0T
- Hustle and chase is average. Doesn’t pursue hard.
- Subtle stop and start quickness.
- Too vertical of a stance. Lower your pad height!
- Great build: 6’4, 300 lbs
Pass Rush:
- Good hand placement
- Took on double teams
- Good strong hand punch that moves blockers
- Pass Rush Moves: Bull-rush through guard, Club-rip outside gap, Club-swim
- Flashed spin counter to reset pocket (only did it once or twice)
- Flashes Bull-jerk when bull-rush stalls (only did it once or twice)
- Will keep fighting with hands to disengage, punch, and chop
Pass Rush Fails:
- Will get vertical while he’s pass rushing which takes away his power and penetrating ability
- Want him to use his hands to chop more quickly to disengage
- Will tire out and won’t fully unleash his potential
- If initial hand placement places on his chest at the start he has a hard time making an impact
Run Defense
- Will stand vertically up while reading backfield
- Will shed too late at times
- Uses hands to stack and shed blocks
- Hand usage to fight through double teams: club-swim
- Strong and quick hands to take on down blocks to shed and finish
- Flashes elite timing to make plays
