The Seahawks lost to the Rams this past Sunday in a defensive battle. Bobby Wagner, the MIKE linebacker in Pete Carroll’s defense, continued to impress and showed why he is one of the best interior linebackers in the NFL. Drafted in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft, Wagner has consistently proven doubters wrong that penalized him for his lack of prototypical size.

In this video breakdown, I looked at Bobby Wagner’s performance versus the Rams and discussed how the Seahawks used him in their 4-3 Under defense as the MIKE linebacker.

Wagner finished this game with just eight combined tackles. While statistically this was an average day, it was his form technique to shed blocks and how he stuck to tight ends in pass coverage that earned him a spot in ProFootballFocus’ “Top Performers of Week 2”.

Next week, the Seahawks face the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers have averaged over 30 carries per game, Bobby Wagner will need to be called upon again to shut down running lanes like he did versus the Rams.
