Colt McCoy took over as starting Redskins quarterback in the second half of Week 7 versus the Titans in place of Kirk Cousins due to offensive inefficiency and turnovers. McCoy would only give back the starting QB position to RG3 after RG3 was fully healthy in Week 9 versus the Vikings and again when he was placed on IR after injuring his neck in consecutive weeks against the Rams and the Giants in Weeks 14 and 15. In this breakdown we will take a look at his 5 touchdowns and three interceptions during the 2014 season.

Here are links to the other Redskins quarterbacks I’ve done this season:

Last time I took a look at Andrew Luck’s touchdowns during the 2014 season. Now we’ll take a look at the other side of the coin. Andrew Luck threw 20 interceptions during the season and playoffs in 2014. For this article we’ll take a look at all of his interceptions to see what Luck still needs to improve on going into his 4th season.

Let’s start by looking at some stats on Luck’s interceptions.

In my last article I broke down Kirk Cousins’ ten touchdowns during weeks 2 through 7. In this article we will go over his nine interceptions starting with his first one that occurred during the third week of the season against the Eagles. It was these untimely interceptions that caused Gruden to bench Kirk Cousins in favor of Colt McCoy.

Here are links to the other Redskins quarterbacks I’ve done this season:

Season Stats
Cousins – 126/204 (61.8%), 1,710 yards, 8.4 y/a, 10 TDs, 9 INTs, 7 rushes for 20 yards

First let’s look at the intended targets of the interceptions.

Receiver Breakdown

Andre Roberts 3
Pierre Garcon 2
DeSean Jackson 2
Ryan Grant 1
Niles Paul 1

Next let’s see which quarter and what down the interceptions occurred. The vast majority of the interceptions occurred in the 2nd half with most in the 4th quarter. Not a good sign!

Over my next few articles, I’m going to be covering the biggest positives (touchdowns) and negatives (turnovers) from the young QBs in 2014. This article will cover Blake Bortles’s 17 interceptions in 2014, plus the eight times he put the ball on the ground. First, I’m going to cover some charting data I came up with while watching his passing. Then, on page 2 and beyond, there are my thoughts on the individual plays themselves. You should note that while the section covering each individual play includes the fumbles, the charting data does not.

Here are the articles so far:

  • Derek Carr’s 21 passing TDs in 2014.
  • Teddy Bridgewater’s 14 TD passes and one rushing TD.
  • Blake Bortles’ 11 TD passes.
  • Teddy Brigewater’s 12 turnovers.
  • Derek Carr’s 16 turnovers.
  • One of the first things I charted for each interception was blame. I assigned three categories, which should be self-explanatory:

    Blame

    QB’s Fault 12
    Partially QB’s fault 4
    Not QB’s fault 1

The majority of Bortles’ interceptions last year were totally on him. As you’ll see later, many of those were because he forced throws to receivers that weren’t open. On many of the plays he allowed the defender to jump the route and pick the ball off.… Article continues here

By my count, 3/4ths of Derek Carr’s interceptions were his fault. There was one that I don’t blame him at all for, because a catchable pass bounced off of his receiver’s hands. There were a couple that were only kind of his fault, but most of the interceptions he threw were his fault.… Article continues here
