The Redskins started with promise on Sunday, but ultimately ended in embarrassment as they were blown out by their division rival the Dallas Cowboys. In this game, RG3’s statistics were misleading as he was inaccurate with the football and showed multiple times where he was unable to read coverages and was still hesitant with the football. Here are some of his plays in this weeks breakdown.

Stats
RG3 - 27/41, 336 yards, 8.2 ypa, 2 TDs (1 rushing), 2 INTs, 6 rushes for 19 yards, 3 sack for 27 yards

Play 13
Situation: 2nd and 8 at WSH 22
Description: Q1 - (9:32) RG3 pass short right to D.Young pushed ob at WAS 31 for 9 yards (K.Wilber, B.Carr).

RG3 on play-action reads WR88 Garcon’s corner route as his first read and then finds FB36 Young’s in the right flat for a 9 yard gain and first down.

The Cowboys zones underneath zones are too deep for RG3 to take advantage of the Cover 2 by the safeties. So RG3 makes the correct decision is to pass to Young or Morris on the checkdown.… Article continues here

RG3 showed very positive signs of improvement during his Week 16 match-up versus the Eagles. In this game, RG3 showed a better grasp of fundamental quarterbacking that he hasn’t shown all season. If RG3 continues to show these signs of progress, the Redskins should be confident in naming him their quarterback of the future.

Stats
RG3 - 16/23 for 220 yards (9.6 ypa), 0 TDs, 1 INTs, 1 fumbled snap, 2 sacks for 15 yards, and two-50+ yard bombs to DeSean Jackson

Offensive groupings are denoted as a two digit number, where the first digit represents the number of runnings backs, and the second number represents the number of tight ends in the set.
For example, “12” offensive grouping refers to 1 RB, 2 TE and 2 WRs.

Play 1
Situation: 2nd and 3 at PHI 40
Description: Q1 - (11:05) R.Griffin pass short left to D.Jackson pushed ob at PHI 33 for 7 yards (C.Williams).

Colt McCoy reaggravated his neck versus the Giants in the first quarter, so RG3 stepped back in as the Redskins starter. RG3 performed well on the ground, but still struggled with decision-making in the pocket as a traditional quarterback. This breakdown will explain his plays.

Stats - 18/27, 236 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT, 5 rushes for 46 yards, 7 sacks for 47 yards, 3 Fumbles (1 lost)

Play 1
Situation: 2nd and 9 at WSH 34

RG3 in shotgun motions TE84 Paul from the right to the left side of the formation. Paul runs to the flat, while WR88 Garcon runs a quick out route.

This a very simple play to give the Redskins a more manageable 3rd down. Also, it forces RG3 to release the ball early to avoid the pressure by the Giants’ defensive line. Since RG3 hasn’t played a full game in three weeks this was probably also used as a confidence booster.

RG3 throws an accurate pass to pick up five yards on the play after reading that his first read Paul is covered.… Article continues here

Colt McCoy, RG3, and the Redskins Shutdown By the Rams Defense

Dec 10, 2014

[follow_me]

Colt McCoy and the Redskins played the Rams at home resulting in a humuliating defeat. In this match-up the Rams defensive front seven dominated the line of scrimmage and shutdown the Redskins offense. This post will look at how McCoy and RG3 performed versus this prolific defense.

WR DeSean Jackson was out of the game due to a lower leg contusion suffered in the loss against the Colts so Andre Roberts and Santana Moss had to step up to fill the void.

Stats:
Colt McCoy - 20/32 - 199 yards, 0 TD, 2 INT, 1 Fumble, 6 sacks for 45 yards
RG3 - 3/4 - 33 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT, 1 sack for 8 yards

Play 1
Situation: 1st and 10 at WSH 23
Description: Q1 - (14:54) (Shotgun) C. McCoy pass short left to P.Garcon pushed ob at WAS 33 for 10 yards (J.Jenkins).

RG3 Benched; Redskins Made the Correct Decision

Nov 26, 2014
Samuel Gold

After one of the worst performances of RG3’s career against the Buccaneers, RG3 tried to redeem himself versus the San Francisco 49ers. This post will analyse how he played.

Play 1
Situation: 1st and 10 at WSH 17
Description: Q1 - (14:53) (Shotgun) R.Griffin pass short left to D.Jackson pushed ob at WAS 24 for 7 yards (C.Culliver). Caught at WAS 15. 9-yds YAC.

RG3 is in shotgun with four outside WRs in twin stacks on opposite sides. The play is a WR screen pass to Jackson. Grant blocks Culliver on the edge and allows Jackson to gain 7 yards.

This play could have gone to either Roberts on the right side or Jackson on the left side. Based on Culliver playing off-man coverage CBs playing closer to the line on the other side it makes Jackson the better choice.

Play 2
Situation: 2nd and 3 at WSH 24
Description: Q1 - (14:23) R.Griffin sacked at WAS 15 for -9 yards (Ald.Smith).
Sideline View

Endzone View

Sack Alert! RG3 is in offset-I formation with Garcon and Jackson on the outsides. Both of the outside CBs are in man-press coverage. Jackson runs a go-route taking the inside shoulder of his CB, while Garcon runs a curl route.… Article continues here
