The Dallas Cowboys, despite the lack of Tony Romo for most of the season and a lack of a solid passing game, have one of the more efficient rushing attacks in the league. They are 9th in yards per game (119.0) and T-10 in yards per attempt (4.3) which is a testament to how good the offensive line is. Defenses are not respecting the Dallas passing attack so teams are loading the box and daring them to throw. Yet the Cowboys have kept on grinding against these odds and have done well running the ball most of the year. Then they visited the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and got manhandled. The Buccaneers are one of the better rushing defenses in the league as they are 12th in yards allowed per game (101.0) and 3rd in yards allowed per attempt (3.6) but the Cowboys could have never expected that they would average a paltry 2.0 yards per attempt. This film will look into why they were manhandled by the Buccaneers and should the panic button be pressed.

But for every amazing performance, there is usually a terrible performance that goes along with it. I want to focus on a terrible performance this week and I decided to look at the Saints rushing attack against the Titans. The Saints have been great on offense this year with the second most yards per game (421.7) and sixth most point per game (26.8) but it has been no thanks to its running game efficiency. They have the 25th ranked rushing attack (95.0) and 30th ranked YPA (3.6) in the league and the game against the Titans was statistically their worst performance of the year in terms of efficiency. This is surprising for two reasons. The first is the Saints looked like they had turned around the rushing attack as in three of their last four games (@Eagles, @Colts, vs. Giants) they had run for over 4.0 yards per carry. The second is the Titans have one of the most average run defenses in the league as they are 17th in yards allowed per game (111.5) and 15th in yards allowed per attempt (4.1). … Article continues here
